Many companies offer a coating service for free issue lamps. This means that local companies can send their lamps to a company for covering but that customers who are further afield or who have significant quantities of lamp covers might not be able to have their needs met.

One answer for this is to have a fitting service where engineers go to the client’s premises. In addition, we have developed a service for enable clients to order the heat shrinkable lamp covers in coils and they fit them themselves.

Holscot are pleased to offer Heat Shrinkable Sleeving on continuous reels for T8, T10 & T12 sizes. This enables customers to coat lamps on their own timescale.

Due to the unique properties of FEP, the coating will not age, discolour or become brittle. This means it can be kept indefinitely at ambient temperatures in readiness for use.

The kind of customers that normally undertake this service are likely to be selling lamps – UV or Fluorescent – who want to do their own shatterproofing. They would equip themselves with either a steam chamber or a tunnel oven or simply use a hot air gun.

The benefits of self-application of shatterproof lamp covers

There are a number of benefits to this level of flexibility. These include:

• Lower cost – it can be cheaper to coat lamps in-house rather than purchase them ready-coated. In addition, there are minimal setup costs 
• Cost control – the customer can control the labour cost that they divert to coating the maps. In addition, lamps can be made up at any time, meaning that the client does not need a stockpile of inventory
• Choice – the customer controls the lighting they choose. This means that they can get the lighting they want at the price they want
• Simplicity – there is no logistical difficulty with shipping lamps to a coating company
• Speed – the customer does not have to wait for lamps to be coated & returned
• Improved environmental impact – transportation & environmental costs are minimized as the lamps to not have to be sent away & returned
• Customization – lamps can be branded & additional information can be added to the covers
