Etching services for fluoropolymer extrusions, hose liners, heat shrink tubing and sheet — including customer-supplied parts.
At times it is necessary to negate the effect of the non-stick properties of fluoropolymers – most commonly to enable safe and effective bonding to a substrate material.
We can offer a service to etch all our manufactured materials (FEP, PFA and ETFE) as well as other fluoropolymers (PTFE, PVDF E-CTFE) with one of our chemical etchants.
There are two in-house techniques Holscot currently offer to treat the fluoropolymer surface.
Made from a combination of sodium and napthalene, the etch solution is applied to the fluoropolymer surface. The fluoropolymer sees a reduction in the fluorine and or chlorine content and an increase in the carbon and oxygen content. The change in surface is reflected in the contact angle and can be tested by the use of a Sessile Tester. Holscot use this material on both FEP and PFA. The end product has a light brown colour.
Made from a combination of sodium and napthalene, this etch solution has a limited shelf-life and needs to be used promptly after production. It performs in much the same way, but is typically only applied to PFA.
Holscot have successfully supplied adhesive suitable for fitting sleeves and other similar applications for many years. We offer 2 reliable formulas, that we hold in stock, an is available on short lead-times and low MOQ’s. If you would like to purchase our adhesive please contact us.
