Holscot will be participating at the upcoming UK Space Conference in Manchester between 30th May and 1st June. We will be showcasing our FEP diaphragm and bladder sets for use in Space Propellant tanks. Taking advantage of FEP’s exceptional resistance to established and new Space Propellants, FEP offers an acceptable alternative where traditional materials such as EPDM have been founding wanting. With over 40 years’ experience in working with this versatile material, Holscot has been able to provide customers with custom made solutions to their containment issues.
On display will be our unique FEP bladder design for Hydrogen Peroxide containment which features innovative techniques to expel accumulations of oxygen. The inclusion of a FEP breather tube located in the bladder using our welding skills enables the build-up to be extracted.
The development of an all-plastic, demisable propellant tank will also be heavily featured. Using a fabric backed FEP as the internal liner, the outer surface of the tank can be created using carbon or glass fibre reinforced resin. Since the liner is FEP, a plain FEP diaphragm can be incorporated so that the propellant is only exposed to an inert FEP surface. The two halves of the tank are created by vacuum forming and inlet/outlets can be easily incorporated.
The resultant tank is as strong as a metal tank but with the benefit of scalability and dramatically reduced lead times at a fraction of the price.
